When you share sensitive documents or run a data room, where that data lives is not just a technical detail. Regulators, customers, and internal policy often require that data stay in a specific region. Multi-region hosting lets you store documents in the region you need so you can meet data residency and compliance without giving up secure sharing, access control, or analytics.
Many jurisdictions require that personal or confidential data be stored in a specific geography. GDPR influences where EU personal data can be processed and stored. Financial services, healthcare, and government contracts often specify that data must remain in-country or in-region. If your document sharing or data room provider only stores everything in one region, you may not be able to use it for deals or workflows with strict residency rules.
Knowing where your data lives is also part of security and risk. Some teams cannot send confidential documents to infrastructure in certain countries. Others need to prove to auditors or customers that data never leaves a given region. When you can select the region for your documents, you keep control over compliance and trust.
Without multi-region support, you either use one product for one region and another elsewhere, or avoid cloud document sharing for sensitive use cases. With multi-region hosting, you use one platform for secure links and data rooms and still meet different regional requirements. Access control, audit logs, and analytics stay the same; only the storage region changes.
We replicate storage per region: each organization is assigned a region at creation time, and all documents and data room content for that org are stored in that region. There is no mixed storage per org.
When you create an organization (on signup or when adding a new workspace), we ask where you want your documents stored. We suggest a region from your detected location; you confirm or pick another. The choice is fixed for the life of that org so you can reason about and communicate where your data lives.

We store that organization's documents in the region you chose so you can meet residency and compliance needs. For another region or a formal guarantee (e.g. DPA, BAA), contact us and we can discuss options.
We also support bring-your-own cloud storage so you can keep documents in your own bucket or region. If you need to plug in your existing storage for compliance or preference, we can add that for your organization. Ask about storage options when you get in touch or book a demo.
Sendpaper is open source. The code is visible and auditable, which supports security and trust. For the strictest data residency or security requirements, self-hosting is an option: you run Sendpaper in your own environment and keep full control over where data lives and how it is processed. Multi-region in our cloud gives most teams the right balance; when that is not enough, the open source model gives you a path to run the same product on your own terms.
Sendpaper is open source: you can inspect the code and self-host for full control. We also offer licensing and hosted options for teams that need enterprise support or prefer not to run the stack themselves. For questions about licensing, open source hosting, or self-hosting, contact us and we'll help you choose the right option.
Multi-region document hosting lets you store shared documents and data room content in the region you need for compliance and security. Sendpaper supports multiple regions: you choose at organization creation, and all content for that org stays in that region. We are open source so you can audit the code and, when needed, self-host for full control. For specific region or compliance requirements, get in touch. See Pricing for plans.
